Lap-dancers hit out at bid to curb clubs

LAP-DANCERS have hit back at an MSP's bid that could see their clubs closed.

Two Glasgow students, who work part-time in Seventh Heaven, near Charing Cross, say Sandra White's proposals for laws to ensure all Scottish councils are given powers to refuse applications – and to shut all clubs if they want – could leave hundreds of people jobless.

Strippers banned from taking clothes off

WELCOME to the Gold Coast strip club where the girls are not allowed to strip.

Players Showgirls, in Surfers Paradise, was stripped of its adult entertainment permit by the Office of Liquor and Gaming after it went into receivership in April with debts of nearly $1 million.

As a result, its dancing girls are no longer allowed to strip completely.

Several customers have contacted the Bulletin to complain they had not got what they paid for after splashing out $50-$60 for five free drinks and a private lap dance expecting the stripper to take all her clothes off.

"They get you in on the drinks card and lap dance but you're not getting what you paid for. It was bit of a rort," a customer said.

Lap dancing club stripped of its licence

OXFORD’S only lapdancing club has been stripped of its licence after complaints it created a “hostile environment”.

The Lodge opened at its current premises in Oxpens Road last August after being forced out of St Ebbes. But under Government rules it must renew its sexual entertainment venue licence every year.

Yesterday, Oxford City Council revealed the licence had not been renewed with immediate effect.

The renewal application received 23 letters of support – mostly from staff and the owners – as well as 20 objections. Those in support said it provided a friendly atmosphere and good job opportunities, while those against said the club objectified women and caused noise and harrassment.

But club owner Al Thompson, who said 50 girls worked from the club, yesterday vowed to fight the decision all the way, claiming it was based on hearsay.

Stripper was not indecent

A stripper accused of exposing himself in a busy restaurant was cleared of public indecency yesterday.

Stuart Kennedy was accused of exposing his private parts while stripping at a hen party at La Bamba in Aberdeen.

The charge also stated that by simulating sex and making sexually suggestive remarks at the diner he had committed a public indecency offence. But the 29-year-old denied the charge and went on trial for two days at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Sheriff Malcolm Garden said he was not satisfied that the Crown had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. And he found Mr Kennedy, of Aberdeen, not guilty of the charge.

After the case, Mr Kennedy said he was glad the case was finally all over. He said: "It is absolutely ridiculous. There is only so much you can do as a performer.

Pole dancing club gets go-ahead

THIRD time has proven to be lucky in a Leamington nightclub’s controversial bid to provide regular adult entertainment.

Warwick District Council’s regulatory committee voted by five to four in favour of granting Shades Gentleman’s Club in High Street, Old Town, a sex establishment licence which will allow lap dancing and pole dancing at the premises from 11pm to 3am from Tuesday to Thursday and until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays.

In a public hearing at Leamington town hall on Monday, committee members’ votes were individually recorded.

Those in favour of granting the licence were Conservative councillors Felicity Bunker and Dave Shilton (both Kenilworth Park Hill), George Illingworth (Kenilworth Abbey), Elizabeth Higgins (Warwick West) and committee chairman Sue Gallagher (Leek Wootton).

Those against were councillors Eithne Goode (Lib Dem, Leamington Manor), Barbara Weed (Lab, Leamington Willes), Dave Wreford-Bush (Lib Dem, Leamington Manor) and Bertie MacKay (Ind, Stoneleigh).
